A Season of Kindness: Ways to Help Feed Local Children

The calendar has a way of filling up as the holidays approach. Between the gatherings and the errands, we hope you can make room for one more thing: a little kindness for children close to home. Kindness has a way of finding its place on the calendar.

From October through December 2026, The Kind Mouse is inviting neighbors across Pinellas and Manatee Counties to take part in A Season of Kindness. There is no single way to join in. You might spend an afternoon at a community event, gather food with friends or make a gift that helps provide dependable food for local children.

This season is for the person with an open Saturday, the office that loves a shared project and the neighbor who would rather give quietly from home. All are welcome. Each path leads to the same local work: helping children receive food through the people and places already part of their lives.

What is A Season of Kindness?

It is The Kind Mouse’s invitation to turn a busy holiday season into several chances to care for children nearby. The events and giving opportunities run from October through December. Some ask you to come out and enjoy time with neighbors. Others fit into a school, workplace or a quiet moment at home. They are connected by one purpose: helping provide food for children in our own communities.

That flexibility matters. A family may be able to bring a few items to a collection. A local business may want to gather its team around a drive. Someone else may have room for a monthly gift, but no room in the calendar for another event. There is a place for all three. No one has to do everything for their kindness to count.

A season with room for everyone

Bags and Baubles takes place on Saturday, November 7, at The Blu Halo in St. Pete. This free event brings together mostly gently loved purses, jewelry and accessories, with a few new pieces, for an afternoon of giving. An RSVP is appreciated but not necessary. Purchases support The Kind Mouse’s mission.

From November 30 through December 18, the Holiday Food Drive welcomes individuals, businesses, schools and community groups. The food collected helps fill Mouse Nibbles bags for local children. If you would like to host a drive, connect with The Kind Mouse for the current collection details.

On Tuesday, December 1, GivingTuesday offers another way to take part. One day can open a door. You can make a one-time gift, begin a monthly gift or invite someone you know to join you. One kind action may be small enough to fit into a Tuesday, yet its care can continue well beyond it.

Mistletoe Market follows on Saturday, December 12, at Horan Park in St. Pete Beach. It is a chance to enjoy a festive community gathering while supporting a local cause. As the year comes to a close, year-end giving offers another way to help through December 31, whether you choose a one-time gift or ongoing monthly support.

Donor advised fund giving is another way to take part for neighbors who already have a fund. Consider recommending a grant to The Kind Mouse through your fund provider. Contact The Kind Mouse for the information your provider needs. It is another way to help keep little tummies cared for this season.

The dates offer several starting points, and the choices can connect. A person who first meets The Kind Mouse at an event may later share the food drive with a friend. A group collecting food may decide to learn more about monthly giving. These are invitations, not a checklist. Take the one that fits, and let the rest of the season unfold.

What your kindness supports

The Kind Mouse helps feed children across Pinellas and Manatee Counties. In Manatee County alone, the organization serves over 1,000 children each week. Known as a gap filler, The Kind Mouse helps meet children’s food needs that other services may not cover. Volunteers and trusted community partners help that support reach children with dignity and care.

There is a quiet tenderness in that approach. The Kind Mouse and its trusted partners do the work of getting food closer to children when families need extra support. Help from neighbors keeps that work going, even after holiday calendars and decorations have been put away.

How can you find your place in the season?

Think about what you most enjoy sharing. If it is your time, a community gathering may be your doorway in. If it is the energy of your school, office or neighborhood, a food drive might bring people together. If you prefer to give directly, a one-time or monthly gift is just as welcome. Kindness is useful in more than one shape.

If you are deciding where to begin, start with the time and energy you have. A single afternoon can introduce you to the mission. A food drive can bring a whole group into it. A monthly gift can make kindness a regular part of your year. There is space for each of those choices in this season.

Every invitation on this calendar leads back to the same simple hope: more little tummies cared for, week after week. Explore the A Season of Kindness page to find the event or giving opportunity that feels right for you. Then invite a friend to come along. Kindness has a lovely way of making room for more.
